It seems there are so many posts floating around regarding Adsense bans that I want to address it here. I have been an Adsense publisher myself for many years now and just want to list a few basics for those who are new to to the program and perhaps a little concerned.
This may be nothing new to some, but I am sure that some will find it helpful.
What You Are Allowed Ad Wise:
For each page you are allowed up to 3 Banner Type Ads, 3 Text Link Type Ads, and 2 Search Engine Boxes. You don't have to use all of them, but those are the limits of each.
What Content Is Not Allowed:
Make sure that your site is free from content that is gambling related, violent, or pornographic in nature. Also your site cannot promote anything that is illegal (ie. sale of prescription drugs you are not authorized for etc).
Another reason people get banned from Adsense is the use of copyrighted content that they do not have authorization to redistribute. Think of movie sites or sites that allow illegal distribution of software or intellectual property of any sort.
What You Need:
Every site that uses Google Adsense needs to have a Privacy Policy. You don't have to get fancy, but it is part of the Terms of Service for the Google Adsense program and not having one could get you banned. If you are not sure how to create a Google Adsense Privacy Policy, you can just "Google It" and there are many default templates that you can cut and paste onto your site and be done with it.
What You Cannot Do:
Do not click on your own ads or encourage people to click on your ads.
Do not "cloak" your ads or "trick" people into clicking your ads.
Also note that placing Adsense ads in certain formats are illegal. Things like using pop-ups or pop-unders are not allowed by the program.
Also do not place your ads too close to things like images or navigation where there is a possibility people can click them on accident. In the event your site is manually reviewed, you may get banned for this if Google feels your ad placement results in a lot of invalid clicks.
Remember as a new publisher you still have to hit the $100 threshold to be paid, and trust me if you engage in these activities your account will be banned far before you even get near a payout. So don't waste your time doing it.
Conclusion:
Google Adsense has a lot of strict guidelines and are quick to ban publishers that do not follow the rules. However if you adhere to the above rules you will probably be fine. The Google Adsense program can earn you a lot of money if you do it right, so you want to be sure that you do not get your account banned and try to keep it in good standing for the long haul.
