With all the talk these days about people getting their Google Adsense accounts banned it is important that we seek out alternatives in the event that we experience this unlucky fate.
Though Google Adsense should be the first choice for anyone who is interested in getting paid per click, there are a couple of other noteworthy alternatives that you should consider signing up at.
Google Adsense Alternative #1: AdBrite
AdBrite is probably the first place that I would consider as an alternative to Google Adsense. Though obviously not as large as Google Adsense, AdBrite does offer a decent size pool of advertisers which makes it a great alternative.
What is great about AdBrite is that it also offers a variety of ad formats to choose from. Aside from traditional banner ads, AdBrite also offers full page ads as well as inline text ads.
Another great feature is that you can actually use AdBrite ads in conjunction with your Google Adsense ads. There is an area where you can set up AdBrite ads to show only when the CPM is higher than what you would get with your Google Adsense ads, thus potentially maximizing the revenue that you can get.
AdBrite ads also allow you to really drill down and target advertisers related to your niche by setting up parameters telling advertisers what your site is about. This will in turn allow you to better target ads that are shown on your site.
Google Adsense Alternative #2: Chitika
Another great alternative to Google Adsense is Chitika. The current program was the now defunct Yahoo Publisher Network, and it allows publishers to show a variety of ads known as "mini-malls" on their sites.
Chitika ads work by showing visitors to your site ads related to the search query that they just entered. For example is someone found your website through Google after searching for "Dog Collars", the Chitika ads on your site would show advertisements related to this.
Chitika like AdBrite ads can also be used in conjunction with Google Adsense and when combined together can actually offer a good boost to your site's revenue.
The only downside to Chitika is that it takes a while for your application to get approved, so if you haven't already you may want to get one rolling.
Though Google Adsense is still king it is nice to know that there are alternatives out there. So if you haven't already, definitely check out these programs when you get the chance.
