Slide in Footer Optins - Do they effect your SEO ?

I currently have a few blogs that currently have a pritty poor optin rate for the newsletter .... Currently 2 - 3 % of the traffic sign up to the newsletter which i know can be improved !!!!

Over the years there has been a crop of different optin options like ultimate footer ad - Pop Up Domination & Premium List Magnet.

I should have tested this years ago - what has always held me back is the fear that i would be penalized....

whats your experience of using such scripts ?

Can everyone share there success and or failures on this topic......

I do definitely think that search engines frown upon those pop-up scripts etc. For me I really have only used Aweber. I am not a big email marketing guy so I can't really comment.

I do know that I have worked on a lot of websites where webmasters have gotten penalized from WP plugins and add-ons. I would imagine these sorts of scripts fall into this category.
